About The Team

🐾 Meet Ace

Rescued from a shelter in Kentucky in August 2024, Ace was estimated to be around two years old — though her boundless drive and intelligence made her maturity clear from day one. She quickly proved to be both highly trainable and happiest when she’s working. Outside of inspections, she enjoys long walks and relaxing with her three furry siblings — two brothers and a sister.

Ace is certified through the prestigious Florida Canine Academy, where she trained intensively to detect 16 specific types of mold — including those hidden behind walls, beneath flooring, or inside HVAC systems. Her sense of smell allows her to pinpoint mold with unmatched accuracy, and she undergoes daily training to keep her skills sharp. Every 90 days, she is re-certified to maintain top-level performance.

Ace provides a fast, accurate, and non-invasive alternative to traditional testing methods. Her work has earned the trust of homeowners, property managers, and real estate professionals across Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama.

👥 About the Team

Ace Mold Detection is owned and operated by Karen and Fab, a husband-and-wife team passionate about mold awareness, health, and canine rescue. Married since 2010 and based in Middle Tennessee since 2019, they bring a deeply personal motivation to their work.

Karen, a longtime hairstylist, became increasingly aware of mold-related illness through her clients — many of whom were dealing with unexplained symptoms tied to indoor air quality. That growing awareness sparked the idea of starting a mold detection service. After researching non-invasive options, Karen and Fab discovered canine-assisted mold detection and reached out to Bill Whitstine, founder of the Florida Canine Academy and pioneer of the method Ace would later be trained in.

Determined to adopt rather than buy, they spent months searching for the right dog — and found Ace, a beagle with the perfect temperament and scenting instinct. After she settled in, Ace was sent to Florida for a three-month training program. Karen and Fab then completed a hands-on, week-long certification alongside Ace, becoming certified mold inspectors and professional handlers.

Today, the three work as a team to help families and businesses detect mold early, avoid costly damage, and improve health and peace of mind — one inspection at a time.
